Why is the water green?

The water appears green primarily because of the microscopic algae growing naturally within the open-air bore pools and streams.

Because the artesian water is completely untreated—free of chlorine or chemical sanitizers—and is exposed to bright outback sunlight, it creates an ideal environment for algae to thrive. As these natural micro-organisms multiply in the mineral-rich water, they tint the pools and flowing streams with shades of green.
