Is Charlotte Plains right for you?

Charlotte Plains offers a very different experience from a traditional caravan park or resort — and that’s exactly why so many of our guests love it.

We’re a privately owned, working sheep and cattle property in remote Outback Queensland, where wide-open spaces, naturally flowing artesian water, star-filled skies, campfires, wildlife, and the rhythms of station life are all part of the experience.

We want you to know what to expect before you arrive, so you can decide whether Charlotte Plains is the right fit for your outback adventure.

Come for the real outback

Charlotte Plains is about space, simplicity, and slowing down.

You can soak in our artesian bore bathing precinct, sit around a campfire, watch an incredible sunset, look up at a sky largely free from light pollution, explore the property, spot native wildlife and birdlife, enjoy a drink at the Bore Bar when open, or simply find a quiet patch of outback and do very little at all.

It isn’t a manicured resort — and we don’t want it to be.

We’re remote

Charlotte Plains is approximately 50 km east of Cunnamulla, with the final section of your journey taking you along unsealed roads.

Road conditions can change with the weather, particularly after rain, and driving on dirt and gravel is part of travelling in the outback.

Mobile reception at Charlotte Plains is extremely limited and patchy. While some guests may occasionally pick up a signal in certain areas, you should plan your stay assuming you will have little to no mobile coverage.

Wi-Fi is available at the Bore Campsite and Shearers’ precinct, with complimentary access for the first 15 minutes, and paid options available if you need to stay connected.

For many guests, disconnecting is one of the best parts!

Our artesian water is natural

Our bore water comes naturally from deep within the Great Artesian Basin and flows continuously through the property.

Unlike a conventional swimming pool, the bore pools and baths are part of a natural outdoor environment and are not chemically treated to create crystal-clear swimming-pool conditions. Natural mineral deposits and algae can occur, and the base of the bore pool can be uneven or stony.

If you have sensitive feet, we recommend bringing suitable water shoes.

The water emerges at around 42°C before cooling as it flows through the bathing precinct, allowing you to find a spot that suits you.

Nature comes with nature

Outback Queensland has flies, insects, dust, burrs, bindis, wildlife, changing temperatures, and plenty of red dirt.

Conditions vary throughout the year and even from week to week. Closed shoes around camp, insect repellent, sunscreen, and a little outback preparedness can make your stay much more comfortable.

You’ll also be sharing the property with native wildlife and livestock. Please enjoy them from an appropriate distance and follow any instructions from our team.

Camping here is intentionally simple

Our Bore Campsite is unpowered, spacious, and informal. Rather than tightly allocated caravan park sites, guests have the freedom to find their own patch of ground and enjoy considerably more space.

There are amenities, drinking water, Wi-Fi access, campfire areas, the Merch Hut and Bore Bar, and the artesian bathing precinct.

Generators are permitted between 8am and 8pm, though we do ask that you be considerate of those nearby wanting to enjoy the serenity.

If powered camping or accommodation is more your style, we also have limited powered sites and accommodation options at our Shearers’ Campsite and Quarters.

We’re a working sheep and cattle property

Charlotte Plains is first and foremost a working sheep and cattle property, as well as a tourism destination.

Our pastoral operation now focuses on meat production, and livestock and station activities continue to form part of everyday life on the property.

That means you may occasionally see staff, sheep, cattle, machinery, station vehicles, maintenance, or other day-to-day activities taking place during your stay. These aren’t staged experiences, they’re simply part of life at Charlotte Plains.

Things don’t always run to a city timetable

We’re a long way from the nearest hardware store, tradesperson, supermarket, or replacement part.

If something unexpectedly breaks, our team will always do what we reasonably can to resolve it, but repairs and supplies aren’t always available immediately. We appreciate your understanding in these situations.

Similarly, weather can affect roads, access, activities, and station operations. We encourage guests to check current conditions before travelling.
