When is the best time to visit Charlotte Plains?

Charlotte Plains truly comes alive from April to October – the cooler months of the year. This is the perfect time to soak in the hot artesian baths under wide open skies, enjoy the comfortable outback days and crisp nights, and make the most of our amenities like the Bore Bar and Merch Hut, which are open throughout the season.

If you’re planning your trip during school holidays, be aware these are our busiest times and the property has a lively, social buzz. For those seeking a quieter escape, we recommend visiting outside the holiday periods – or choosing a campsite a little further from the common areas, where you’ll have more peace and space to yourself.

Charlotte Plains also attracts crowds during our events, as well as before and after major outback gatherings such as the Big Red Bash or Birdsville Races. This makes it a perfect stopover to rest, explore, and enjoy the unique outback atmosphere while travelling to or from these iconic events.

During the off-season (November to March), temperatures in Cunnamulla can soar and the flies are more persistent. Our accommodation and powered campsites are closed, and our bar/merch hut has limited opening hours. Staffing is also limited over this period. That said, some guests love the raw beauty and heat of summer, and find the elements all part of the outback adventure.

Check out the temperature graph below to see what conditions are like across the year and plan your ideal outback getaway.
