What happens if there’s been recent rain or bad weather forecasted? How do I check road updates?
Charlotte Plains is a rural station with unsealed roads.
After significant rainfall, our roads may become temporarily unsafe or unsuitable for vehicle access. To protect guest safety and prevent damage to the property roads, access may be delayed or temporarily closed.
Prior to your stay with us, please check:
1. Our Live Weather Station below to see if there is, or has been, any significant rainfall (>10mm/day).
2. Our Facebook and Instagram pages for the latest posts relating to road closures or partial access.
3. Your email inbox/junk folders for any direct communications from our team.
PLEASE NOTE: We are on UHF channel 26. Do not attempt to drive if the roads are closed, as you will likely get bogged. A $200 towing fee applies to those who do not adhere to instruction.
As a general guide, we use the following traffic light system — please note these timeframes are a guide only. Depending on time of year, sunlight exposure, wind, and the velocity of the rainfall, the rules are as per below:
| Rainfall Received | Road Access | Estimated Impact |
| Less than 5mm/day | 🟢 Green | All roads are generally open. |
| 5-10mm/day | 🟢 Green | Roads are open for guest entry and exit to Bore Campsite. Middle Rd to SQ is closed to all vehicles towing and 2WD. |
| 10mm–20mm | 🟠 Amber | Roads may need time to dry before access is possible. Bore Campsite access may be delayed by a few hours, while Shearer’s Campsite & Private Baths may require up to a day. |
| 15mm–20mm | 🔴 Red | Roads are likely to remain closed for longer. Bore Campsite access may be delayed by around 1-2 days, while Shearer’s Campsite & Private Baths may require around 2-3 days. |
*The Bore Campsite is 4km from the entrance at the Balonne Highway. It includes unpowered camping, hot artesian springs and baths, and a licensed bar and merch hut.
*The Shearer’s Campsite is a further 8.5km from the Bore Campsite via Middle Road. It includes powered camping and accommodation. Middle Road is also the main access road to the Private Bathing Hut, Woolshed, Cemetery, and Jack’s Hut.
